Job Description

Johnson County Library seeks engaged, qualified candidates to fill the position of Branch Operations Manager as part of the Branch Services team in the Central Region (Central Resource and Oak Park locations). The Branch Operations Manager has management oversight of a Johnson County Library branch location(s), its related patron services (in branch, online or via community outreach) and service platforms (e.g., phone, email, web). This individual plays a highly operational role, managing the day-to-day efforts to deliver branch services for the Johnson County community. This individual is responsible for the end-to-end patron experience inside a branch; staffing (inclusive of creating and updating staff schedules); materials handling; facility management and security preparedness.  The Branch Operations Manager will report to a Regional Manager and is responsible for communicating operational trends or issues to Regional Management on a regular basis.  Applications will be accepted through the end of the day on October 28, 2024.  Duties include:

 

  • Provides oversight of assigned branch locations, maintaining close partnerships with the respective Regional Manager, Regional Librarians, and all in-branch staff; ensures the execution of a positive end-to-end patron experience, including supporting staff participation in relevant patron experience training and adherence to patron experience standards; ensures appropriate application of Library policies, procedures, communication guidelines and brand standards in assigned branch locations; monitors environments to ensure they remain safe, clean, functional, and navigable—appropriately leveraging resources made available for these purposes; supports delivery of other library service lines delivered through the branch inclusive of programs and events, collection, information technology, and other library and partner initiatives; manages staff scheduling, in consultation with peers within the region and in other Library regions; serves as the lead branch resource for building safety and security protocols, including staying up to date on relevant policies and procedures such as workplace safety, monitoring and escalating safety and security risks, and managing work orders; serves as the primary point of escalation and support of branch staff in the event emergency services are needed, patron incidents occur, relevant approvals are needed, or building incidents occur that warrant the support of facility services; manages any relevant patron suspensions.

 

  • Engages with peer Regional Librarians and other Branch Operations Managers to continually assess impact and outcomes of JCL branch services; supports the Regional Manager in evaluating current branch services or in developing new service delivery or opportunities; implements changes or adjustments based on patron insights.

 

  • Keeps up to date on branch operations and patron service delivery to proactively identify when management support is needed; ensures library science and intellectual freedom practices and principles are carried out by branch staff.

 

  • Collaborates and communicates with internal stakeholders as well as County and community partners to support successful patron service delivery.

 

  • Leverages data, reporting, and feedback to inform branch policies, procedures, and standards helping the Regional Managers and Library leadership understand the application and implications of given policies, procedures, and standards; recommends and helps develop updated policies, procedures, and standards.

 

  • Assists budget with contract management; reviews contracts; follows contract procedures; provides proper documentation; ensures staff are following county budget policy and procedures.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements: 

A bachelor's degree in any field of study and two (2) years of experience providing customer service are required.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions.  Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

 

Education may be substituted for experience. Experience may be substituted for education. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

A master's degree in Library Science, Business Administration, Organizational Design, Public Administration, or relevant field is preferred.  One (1) year of experience leading, directing, supervising, or coordinating the work of others is also preferred.
