Job Description

The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment seeks to fill an opening for a full-time Dietitian to work in the Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC). The responsibilities of this position include performing professional public health nutrition services through direct contact and group education. This position will be located at the Johnson County Northeast Office, 6000 Lamar, Mission, KS 66202. This position allows for remote work, up to two (2) days a week, once fully trained in the position.

 

This position will remain open until filled with first review of applications on Thursday, February 6, 2025

 

Duties include:

  • Completes certifications on WIC clients by assessing their nutritional needs, by performing and analyzing anthropometric and biochemical data; identifies healthy food plans to meet individual and family needs considering social, economic, cultural, and other factors; refers individuals to community and clinical resources and coordinates referrals for other health services.
  • Uses information technology in assessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information for short or long-term goals and strategies within WIC as well as other programs within the department and throughout the community.
  • Enhance knowledge, to compliment the position, by regularly attending trainings and sharing information learned in regard to professional skills and the newest nutrition advancements; stay up to date on federal, state, and local agency WIC policies. Research, and/or apply for grants, as applicable, to modernize service delivery and enhance WIC value/benefit for the clients.
  • Provide professional expertise through consultation with other health department programs and throughout the community as requested. Do this through training of new staff dietitians, acting as preceptor for student interns, and participating in community organizations in an effort to reach the lower income communities.
  • Participate in initiatives/committees/projects to advance department, county and statewide goals and objectives.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements Include:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Nutrition, Dietetics, or relevant field and licensure as a Registered Dietitian are required.
  • Commission on Dietetic Registration (RD) is required.
  • Licensure as a Dietician in the State of Kansas is required within six (6) months of employment.
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is also required.

 

Preferred Requirements Include:

 

  • Master's degree in Food Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Clinical Nutrition, or relevant field are preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a dietitian is preferred.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.

 

Within sixty (60) days of hire, employee must produce proof of immunization, proof of immunity, proof that immunization is medically contraindicated, submit a written objection to immunization based upon a sincerely held religious belief, or receive vaccination for the following: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR); Tetanus Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis (TDAP); and Varicella (Chickenpox).
