The Health Supports Assistant Manager provides clinical leadership and direct supervision to six Health Supports Assistants and ensures the delivery of high-quality healthcare coordination and medication administration across Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) residential and day service settings. This position is responsible for coordinating medical services, conducting nursing assessments, promoting health education and self-advocacy, and training Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) on nursing delegated tasks, including medication administration, in compliance with CQL, the Council on Quality and Leadership, the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS), HCBS guidelines. The Health Supports Manager helps provide 24/7 on-site and on-call clincal health resource and support. They perform ongoing quality assurance checks on health records to ensure the people supported at JCDS are receiving the best possible health outcomes.
The Health Supports Assistant Manager oversees the scheduling, communication, and follow-up of all medical, dental, and behavioral health appointments for people receiving services. Ensures timely documentation of provider recommendations, treatments, and medication changes. Completes nursing assessments and offers clinical guidance to staff on best practices for supporting complex health needs. Promotes the active participation of those served in their own healthcare through education, choice, and advocacy. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, families, guardians, pharmacies, and external healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive, person-centered care.
Provides direct supervision and clinical oversight to six Health Supports Assistants, including regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and ongoing mentorship. Leads scheduling, workload management, and coverage planning to ensure service continuity. Fosters a culture of professionalism, accountability, and excellence within the Health Supports team. Manages a 24/7 rotating on-call system for nursing support and guidance across JCDS. Serving as a clinical resource to both Health Supports staff, Team Leaders and Direct Support Professionals. Teaches and trains, then delegates nursing tasks to DSPs, including medication administration, in accordance with the Kansas Nurse Practice Act. Conducts ongoing competency reviews, skill validations, and refresher trainings to ensure DSP proficiency in delegated tasks. Provides education to staff regarding specific diagnoses, health protocols, and emergency response procedures. Provides health-related training materials and collaborates with team leaders to ensure consistent implementation across settings. Serves as a clinical educator and resource for both Health Supports Assistants and DSPs.
Completes quality assurance checks on medical documentation and medication storage to ensure compliance with JCDS policy, and state and federal regulations. Monitors medication administration records, follow-up tracking, and health-related data for accuracy and consistency. Implements quality improvement strategies to enhance health outcomes and reduce preventable issues. Ensures individual health records are updated, organized, and maintained according to best practices.
Minimum of 2 years practicing as a Licensed Nurse. Unencumbered license in the state of Kansas required.
Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
Associates Degree in Nursing preferred
