Job Description

  • System Administration & Uptime
    • Facilitate, coordinate, and expedite troubleshooting efforts to ensure maximum uptime and seamless functionality of the 911 CAD system.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Sheriff’s dispatch operations, other law enforcement and IT departments, and vendors to ensure effective problem-solving and coordinated responses to CAD issues.
    • Build and maintain productive working relationships with multiple departments and agencies to ensure reliable data sharing and system interoperability.
    • Monitor CAD system performance and proactively address issues that may affect dispatching operations or response times.
  • Database Management
    • Administer and maintain CAD-related SQL databases
    • Ensure database integrity, performance, backup, and recovery strategies are effectively implemented and documented.
    • Optimize SQL queries and database design to improve performance and reliability.
  • CAD System Maintenance and Troubleshooting
    • Lead troubleshooting efforts to identify root causes of CAD-related issues, including database errors, interface failures, or network disruptions.
    • Work directly with end users and vendors to test, verify, and implement solutions, minimizing downtime and ensuring rapid recovery of critical services.
    • Maintain and troubleshoot software interfaces between the CAD system and external applications, including Phones, Radios, RMS, JMS, GIS mapping, and other law enforcement systems.
    • Work with the County’s mapping team to manage address and street mapping databases to ensure accurate geolocation within the CAD system.
    • Support and maintain desktop CAD workstations, server infrastructure, and peripheral systems such as building cameras and dispatch consoles.
  • Development & Reporting
    • Design, build, and maintain software interfaces, dashboards, and web applications utilizing CAD data for operational insight.
    • Generate and automate reports detailing policing and dispatching activity for departmental, city, and county leadership use in staffing and budgetary planning.
  • Network & Security
    • Oversee and maintain VPN servers to ensure secure connectivity for authorized equipment and users.
    • Coordinate and perform system-wide CAD software upgrades, including both server and client components.
    • Collaborate with IT teams to plan and advise on WAN, LAN, and security architecture updates that impact CAD systems. Provide testing and troubleshooting support to those teams for implementation.
  • Coordination & Vendor Management
    • Serve as the primary liaison between the County, CAD vendors, and city Law Enforcement and IT departments to ensure coordinated system updates, maintenance, and problem resolution.
    • Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, integrations, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist the Mobile Data Technician in maintaining and troubleshooting laptop computers, network equipment, cameras and other electronic systems installed in law enforcement vehicles.
  • Support other local agencies in troubleshooting CAD-related or inter-agency data exchange issues.
  • Participate in after-hours or on-call rotation as needed to support 24/7 public safety operations.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience administering databases and/or supporting complex mission-critical systems.
  • Experience with public safety systems, especially CAD, RMS, or GIS mapping, is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex, multi-system issues under pressure.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server administration, performance tuning, and T-SQL scripting.
  • Familiarity with network fundamentals, including VPNs, firewalls, and LAN/WAN infrastructure.
  • Experience troubleshooting software integrations and APIs.
  • Knowledge of GIS data and address mapping systems.
  • Ability to design user-friendly reports, dashboards, and interfaces from raw SQL data.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with multiple departments and vendors and communicating technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Ability to work independently in a high-pressure, 24/7 mission-critical environment.
